If you want to do the British Grand Prix properly without sleeping in a tent, the trick is to find somewhere quiet enough to actually rest at night and close enough to make the morning run to the circuit easy. 14 Acres in Clipston sits 35 minutes from Silverstone, well off the main race-weekend traffic, and gives you a luxury countryside base instead of a chain hotel.

I have hosted F1 weekends here for several years now and I have learned what guests need: a fast, well-lit drive home after the noise of the circuit, somewhere they can spread out, and a kitchen that lets them eat properly when restaurants are heaving. All three retreats at 14 Acres deliver on that, and you can book them individually or together.

Below is the practical guide: where the circuit is, how to get there from Clipston, and which of my retreats fits your group.

Why stay near Silverstone for F1 instead of in Towcester

The hotels closest to the circuit fill up 12 months ahead and rates triple over race weekend. The next ring of nearby towns (Towcester, Brackley, Northampton) sells out fast too, and many of those properties are functional rather than luxurious.

Coming back to a calm countryside retreat after a day of engine noise is genuinely restorative. Clipston is far enough from the circuit traffic that you can actually sleep, and close enough that you do not waste hours commuting on race day.

Our wider Silverstone Circuit guide covers the events calendar and visitor tips if you are still planning the rest of the weekend.

Drive time, route and race-weekend parking

From 14 Acres in Clipston to Silverstone Circuit is 28 miles, a 35-minute drive via the A14 and A43 in normal conditions. On Sunday race day, leave at least an hour earlier than the published gate times because the closing roads around the circuit slow everything down.

Silverstone runs a Park and Ride from designated car parks for race weekend. I usually advise guests to pre-book the orange car park if they are happy with a longer walk, or one of the inner parks for less walking and more queuing afterwards. The official Silverstone race weekend visitor information has all the latest map and traffic plans.

On Friday and Saturday the drive is much easier, often closer to 30 minutes. Most years I see guests do practice and qualifying with hardly any traffic and only struggle on Sunday afternoon.

Which 14 Acres retreat suits which group

I have three retreats on the same 14-acre estate, all available individually and all bookable together for exclusive use of up to 19 guests.

The Barn is the largest, sleeping up to 8 across three super king bedrooms with a sofa-bed, a 10-metre glass wall onto a private garden and an outdoor kitchen with a gas barbecue. Family groups and friend trips usually take this one.

The Loft is the boutique stable conversion with the dining balcony over the private lake. Sleeps up to 6 plus 2 infants. Couples and small groups doing F1 together love it because the balcony is a great place to wind down after the noise of the circuit.

The Cottage is the smallest, snug for couples or a small family of three. Sleeps up to 4 across one super king (which can split into singles) and a sofa-bed. Read more about my refined countryside retreats at 14 Acres if you want a full comparison.

What is included at every retreat

Every property comes with super king beds, luxury linens, Rituals products, original art, smart TVs with free Netflix, an Amazon Echo with unlimited music, free 100MB fibre internet, air conditioning, underfloor heating, espresso coffee, herbal teas, and continental breakfast provisions. Free secure parking with EV charging is on site, which matters on a busy F1 weekend.

Optional extras include private chef and massage services, both of which guests often book on the Saturday evening between qualifying and the race. Daily housekeeping is included on stays of three nights or more.

What to do the rest of the F1 weekend

Even on race weekend, you do not want to live at the circuit for three days. I send guests over to Foxton Locks for a quiet morning, into Market Harborough for lunch, or over to Burghley House if they want the grand country-house experience.

Clipston village itself has some great walks on the doorstep, and the family-friendly places to stay near Market Harborough guide is useful if you have anyone joining for a day-trip rather than the whole weekend.

A note from Susan

“F1 weekend is one of my favourite times to host. Guests arrive buzzing on the Friday, do practice, qualifying and the race, and then come back to a quiet 14-acre estate every night. That mix of high-octane day and slow countryside evening is the whole point of staying here.”

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from 14 Acres to Silverstone Circuit?

28 miles, around 35 minutes via the A14 and A43 in normal traffic. On race Sunday, allow at least 60 to 75 minutes due to road closures and Park and Ride queues.

How early should I book accommodation for the British Grand Prix?

At least 9 to 12 months before the race weekend. Luxury accommodation within 45 minutes of the circuit is in very high demand and prices climb steeply once we are inside 6 months.

Is there parking at 14 Acres for race-weekend cars?

Yes. Free secure on-site parking with EV charging is included, and there is room for multiple vehicles per retreat.

Can I book all three retreats together for a group?

Yes. Exclusive use of the full 14-acre estate is available for groups up to 19 guests, with a 60-day cancellation window and a 10 percent deposit at booking.

What time do the gates open on race day at Silverstone?

Gates typically open from 06:00 on race Sunday with on-track action from mid-morning. Always check the official Silverstone schedule and gate times before you travel.

Do you offer a private chef during F1 weekend?

Yes, optional private chef services can be added to any stay. I recommend booking the chef a month or more in advance for July race weekend.

Is there a quieter option than F1 weekend itself?

Yes. Practice and qualifying days (Friday and Saturday) are noticeably calmer for both circuit access and local roads. Many guests prefer the Saturday qualifying experience and use Sunday for sightseeing.
